Jo*Joe - STORY SYNOPSIS
At age thirty-three, Joe Ferguson finally has what he's always wanted in life - two children, a wife and a rented bungalow in Sudbury - a small, northern Ontario town. Then everything comes apart. Jo, his wife, falls in love with a woman and moves out with the kids; the plant where Joe works as a security guard shuts down and relocates itself to Mexico. This all happens around Halloween. By Christmas, Joe too is gone - unemployed and looking for work and a place to live in Toronto. With few job skills and no fall backs, Joe's inner and outer worlds shatter, and he becomes the newest man on the street. |

PRODUCTION NOTES
Jo*Joe is based on two years of research and script development. It is a feature-length docu-drama. The production was recorded on digital mini-DVCAM format with a SONY PD-150. 10% of this digital-movie was shot in Guelph, Ontario which stood in for Sudbury. The balance was shot in Toronto's downtown alleyways; drop-ins for the homeless; overnight shelters; squats and single occupancy hotels. We incorporated many of the Dogme95 principles as well as Cinema Verite documentary techniques in our approach. The cast consisted of non-union professional actors. Some secondary roles were played by members and friends of Street Peoples' Theatre.
